The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) of Guatemala reported that the Fuego Volcano has returned to its normal activity, after the emergency situation that led to the evacuation of 282 families between Sunday and Monday.
In its daily volcanic bulletin issued this Tuesday, Insivumeh mentioned that the volcano has returned to its baseline activity. During the previous night, a few incandescent blocks were observed in the crater, degassing, and weak avalanches due to the destabilization of the material deposited by the eruption.
Despite this weak activity, Insivumeh warned that the possibility of weak, moderate, or strong explosions occurring at any time cannot be ruled out. For this reason, it urges nearby communities to remain vigilant to the activity of the Fuego Volcano.
The Institute noted that the wind could continue to carry ash from the surroundings of the volcano to nearby populations, and this ash could also descend through lahars in the event of rain.
In the last two days, the activity of the Fuego Volcano put around 30,000 people in nearby localities at risk, according to the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction of Guatemala (Conred). The column of ash and gases reached heights exceeding 7,000 meters above sea level.
