Ricardo Arjona Recreates 20-Year-Old Gesture for Original 'Lady of Four Decades'

Last weekend, during one of his shows in Guatemala, Ricardo Arjona staged a particularly emotional moment. This time it was not by chance: Anabella Reyes brought a sign, which she showed, and it allowed Arjona to see her. In 2022, during a concert in Honduras, Arjona contacted her again through a phone in the audience and sang for her from a distance. During this year's performance, as Arjona sang “Señora de las cuatro décadas,” he pointed to the audience, recognized Anabella among the signs, invited her on stage, they hugged, and together they lived through a sequence charged with nostalgia, gratitude, and emotion. Anabella confessed that she had attended several shows with the hope that something similar would happen. There, the singer once again dedicated his iconic song “Señora de las cuatro décadas” to Anabella Reyes, the first woman to whom he sang that song at a concert in 2003, recreating a gesture from 22 years ago. According to what the Argentine News Agency was able to find out, fans saw the gesture as a tribute to the roots of what became a tradition in Arjona's concerts: choosing a woman from the audience to dedicate the song to. According to the chronicle of that night, the “lady in red”—as they described her—accepted the invitation, almost fainted, and marked the beginning of a tradition: every Arjona concert could have its own “lady of four decades.” Since then, the gesture has been repeated dozens of times, even adapting to video calls in recent shows. But this time it was different: it was not a new person, but the “original,” as she herself highlighted. “What happened tonight has been special… I got very emotional,” Anabella said after being invited on stage again. The song “Señora de las cuatro décadas” belongs to the album Historias, published in 1994, and since then it has become one of Arjona's most representative hits. On July 8, 2003, during a concert at that same theater (then called the National Theater), Arjona decided to go down from the stage with his saxophonist, approach the audience, and dedicate the song to Anabella Reyes. The artist will perform for 12 nights at the Movistar Arena. The gesture moved not only her but also the audience present. “It has been a gift that I will not forget,” she said, visibly emotional. Ricardo Arjona is currently presenting his tour “Lo que el viento se llevó,” which will bring him to Argentina in May 2026.
