At least fifteen people were killed and nineteen injured on Friday night in a bus accident in western Guatemala, according to rescue services confirmed on Saturday. The country's Volunteer Firefighters detailed that over 18 ambulances were mobilized to the scene of the tragedy. The accident occurred 175 kilometers west of Guatemala City, specifically in the municipality of Nahualá in the department of Sololá. According to local media, the bus, with nearly fifty people on board, fell into a ravine of at least 50 meters under circumstances being investigated by authorities. The Ministry of Public Prosecution is already at the scene to certify the causes of the accident. One of the victims' relatives, María López Gramajo, told journalists at the scene that she learned about the incident through social media. "We don't know how the accident happened," she said. "When we tried to contact him, he didn't answer, so we started looking for information, and on social media, there were videos of the van being smashed." In February of last year, another bus accident left 54 people dead in Guatemala City when it also fell into a ravine due to brake failure.
